April can be a month where things can start to spring to life if the weather is kind. Conditions early in the month can still be cold but should heat up as the month progresses. Water levels should still be high with water temperatures still fairly low.
Fishing for wild fish in the rivers and lochs should start to come into its own this month although at times you may still have to fish deep to find them. April is usually the first month of the year where prolific hatches can be expected.
Stocked stillwaters will continue to fish well this month with stock fish and overwintered fish to be expected. The latter may become more difficult to catch on attractor patterns as the month progresses with a more imitative natural approach needed.
